Step 1 Revision 

Review the knowledge learned last period.

Step 2 Lead-in & pre-reading

Let the students name these four students: Who are they?

Step 3 While-reading

1. Scan the passage and answer the questions: Who likes his/her new school? How do you know?

2. Read the passage again and match the students with what they’re talking about.

3. Read the passage again and tick the typical descriptions of a vocational school.

□My school is at the foot of a hill.

□There is a training centre at the back of the school.

□Sometimes we study in the classroom, and sometimes in the training centre.

□My mum always says i was born to be a good dancer.

□We have customer service lessons at a hotel.

Step 4 Post-listening

List the language points in the passage:

1. My school is at the foot of a hill. 我的学校在一座山脚下。

at the foot of 表示“在......脚下”，例如：

The cat is lying at the foot of the wall. 那只猫躺在墙角。

类似的词组有：at the end of,表示“在......的末端，在......的尽头”，例如:

There is a bus station at the end of this road. 路尽头有个汽车站。

2. It’s not very big but has a good view. 它不大但景色很美。

view这里作为名词，解释为“风景”。例如：

I’ll sit here and look at the view.我要坐在这里观看风景。

View还经常作为名词解释为“看法，意见”。如：

She expressed the view that cheating is very silly for a student.她发表自己的观点，认为学生作弊很愚蠢。

3. What’s more, there is a training center at the back of the school.另外，在学校后面还有个培训中心。

what’s more的意思是“更有甚者，另外”。同义表达还有：otherwise, besides, moreover, on top of that, in addition等。例如：

I don’t like the new dictionary. Besides, it’s too expensive.我不喜欢那本新字典。另外，它也太贵了。

On top of that, daily travel allowance is $50 each.更重要的是，每人每天还有出差补贴50美元。

4. There are many interesting subjects here, such as hairdressing, computer programming, cooking and tourism.学校开设了许多有趣的课程，像美发、编程、烹饪和旅游。

such as短语的含义为“像；例如”，短语后应为名词或名词短语。例如：

I enjoy songs such as this one.我喜欢像这首一样的歌。

English is spoken in many countries, such as Australia, Canada and so on.许多国家说英语，如澳大利亚、加拿大等。

5. Be born to 表示“生来就是......；注定就是......”

6. From this year on, our lessons are getting more and more interesting.

get在这里是一个系动词，后面可以直接跟名词或形容词，解释为“变得”，这样的词还有：become, go, turn等。短语more and more后跟多音节的形容词，解释为“越来越.....”。
