《大学英语I》是大学生第一学期的一门必修通识教育课程和学位课程，主要是为修完中学英语进入大学阶段学习的学生开设的。它是以英语语言知识与应用技能、学习策略和跨文化交际素养培养为主要内容，以外语教学理论为指导，集多种教学模式和教学手段为一体的教学体系。 《大学英语I》是大学英语教学的第一阶段，是大学英语课程教学的基础。共4个教学任务模块，每个模块分别对学生进行听说读写的综合训练。学生在完成大学英语1阶段的教学之后，实现从高中英语到大学英语教学的过渡与转变，能够适应大学英语的教学模式和要求，明确自己的学习目标，知道什么是正确的学习观念和态度，掌握良好的学习方法和策略，并开始学会独立学习，减少对教师的依赖程度。完成本门课程，学生在读、写、译等方面能够达到大学英语一级水平，即掌握2500个单词和400个词组，在30分钟完成100字的基本合格的写作。阅读速度达到每分钟65词，快速阅读每分钟80词，能听懂语速120词的听力材料。
