本课程是在《英语写作基础1》基础上,面向一年级下学期修读中美双学位学生开设的专业选修课,主要介绍描写文、记叙文、说明文和议论文四种不同文体及图表作文的写作技巧,为学生参加英语四、六级考试,托福、雅思等国际语言测试以及二年级开设的美方《英文写作1-2》课程打基础。本课程充分利用超星智慧教学平台、英语写作教学与评阅系统(爱写作/iWrite)和长江雨课堂三个平台的优势和资源,综合运用产出导向法(POA)和BOPPPS教学模式,采用过程性评价与终结性评价相结合的多元评价方式,进行MOOC+SPOC线上线下混合式教学。
This course helps the students to understand what the academic writing is and how to write a good college essay; meanwhile, the course will also help the students develop critical thinking abilities which will be very helpful in their research. In this term, students are supposed to learn how to write narration, description, exposition, and argumentation by learning writing strategies and practices of peer-editing, presentation, etc. The final score is given based on the attendance, performance in class, assignments, presentation, tests, etc.
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
(1) have a good command of the structure of paragraph and essay, device of coherence and cohesion;
(2) understand the features and writing strategies of four types of writing (narration, description, exposition and argumentation), letters and tables and figures;
(3) write expository and argumentative essays by using the following strategies: examples, definition, process analysis, comparison and contrast, classification and division, and causal analysis;
(4) write business letters with appropriate format and style, and correct sentence structures;
(5) describe the tables and figures correctly;
(6) introduce Chinese culture properly and have intercultural communication skills;
(7) develop virtues such as dedication, honesty, economic wisdom;
(8) remember and practise the core values of socialism;
(9) master flexible strategies for generating, drafting, revising, and editing;
(10) critique their own and others’writing and critically analyze readings that use specific writing strategies.
