化学计量学运用数学、统计学、计算机科学、以及其他相关学科的理论与方法，优化化学量测过程，并从化学量测数据中最大限度地获取有用的化学信息，可以说是一门化学量测的基础理论与方法学。

化学计量学是一门通过统计学或数学方法将对化学体系的测量值与体系的状态之间建立联系的学科。
其任务是研究有关化学测量的理论与方法学，应用数学、统计学与信息理论、计算机科学的方法和手段，科学地设计化学实验，选择最优的测量方法，最有效地获取体系有用的特征数据，并通过解析测量数据最大限度地从中提取有关物质的定性、定量、形态、结构等信息。它是一门正在发展的新兴学科，其主要研究内容包括统计学与统计方法、校正理论、模型估计和参数估计、实验设计和优化方法、分析信号处理、化学模式识别、定量构效关系、人工智能和专家系统、软件和库检索等。

(1)式即是通常的化学方程式。化学计量方程仅表示反应过程中反应组分摩尔质量变化的比例关系，而不反映反应实际进行的机理。
应物系中存在多个反应时，首先需确定独立反应数，它可根据化合物元素矩阵来确定。设反应组分A1，A2…，An是由p个元素E1，E2…,Ep所组成,反应组分Ai中含元素Ek的原子数,
量与其化学计量系数之比,是一个广度变量,单位为mol。反应进度是对一个反应而言的，若有m个独立反应,相应的有m个反应进度。根据反应进度可以计算任何反应组分的变化量。②转化率。某一反应物的反应量与其初始量之比。转化率为一强度因素，其值小于或等于 1。除非初始反应物系中各反应物的比例符合化学计量系数比，否则按不同反应物计算的转化率的数值是不同的。③收率。为生成某一反应产物所消耗某一反应物的摩尔量与该反应物的初始摩尔量之比。收率亦为强度因素，其值小于或等于1。若按重量来计算收率,称为重量收率，当产物的分子量大于反应物的分子量时，则其值可能大于 1。④选择率。为生成某一反应产物所消耗某一反应物的摩尔量与该反应物转化的摩尔量之比。选择率也是强度因素，其值小于或等于1。
入反应器的物料组成将不同于进入反应系统的原料组成，反应器出口的物料组成也不同于离于反应系统的物料组成。以反应器进出口为基准计算的收率和转化率，分别称为单程收率和单程转化率。如以进出反应系统的物料来计算转化率和收率，则分别称为全程转化率和全程收率。课程评价
