Fundamentals of materials science is an advanced course intended for senior students majoring in
inorganic non-metallic materials and engineering, compound materials and engineering, metallic
materials and engineering and materials science and engineering. It mainly presents the fundamental
theories concerning the inorganic non-metallic materials covering the geometrical crystallography,
crystal chemistry, crystal structure, typical crystal structure type of inorganic materials, defects,
vitreous body, surface and interface of materials, phase equilibrium, diffusion, solid reaction,
phase transformation and sintering.
