The word "Taiji" comes from "Zhouyi·Xici: Changes involve Taiji (the supreme ultimate), which produces two modes. The two modes generate the four images, abd the four images generate the eight trigrams. The eight trigrams determine good fortune and misfortune, and good fortune and misfortune generate a great career. Namely, "Taiji" is the origin of all things, meaning "supreme" or "extreme". The meaning of Tai Chi derives from such a context.
