教学方法
本课程的教学理念是“一核心，两主体”，该教学模式基于建构理论的基础上，在国内文化知识类课程处于领先地位。课程实施“培养学生独立发现，思考、钻研、探索的创新式思维为核心，以基于SPOC的学生的自主探究活动为第一主体，以教师的组织、引导、帮助和促进为第二主体。”的英语教学模式。在该教学模式中，教师以培养学生的创新能力为核心，学生是发现者、探索者，教师是引导者；强调立体、多维的英美文化知识吸收，强调中西文化对比；强调英美国家的发展历史给我国经济发展的启示，强调面授教学与发现式学习的结合；强调传统学习资源与现代媒体的结合；强调知识文化和交际文化能力的培养。采用课堂教学和课外学习相结合的方法。在整个教学过程中教师要发挥“导”而不是“教”的作用，做到“精教重导”，以利于学生交际能力的培养。为体现“以学生为中心”的教学思想，结合学生的具体情况，拟将教师讲解、小组讨论和个人陈述等教学方法结合起来,并辅以网络平台和多媒体的教学手段。
考核方式采用闭卷考试， 评价方式主要应用终结性评价辅以形成性评价，即形成性评价主要考核学生的出勤，在线学习与讨论，课堂表现，作业，小论文等；终结性评价为笔试闭卷，考试题型为选择，填空，名词解释，判断以及简答题等多种题型。
教学目标
通过对本课程教学，在开阔学生的视野，扩大知识面，弥补文化背景知识的不足的同时，培养学生的跨文化交际能力和创新思维能力、科学的工作方法以及解决问题的能力，为大学阶段及未来的外语专业学习及自主学习打下扎实的基础。课程教学三级目标如下：
（1）知识目标：使学生对五个主要英语国家（英国、美国、加拿大、澳大利亚、新西兰）的地理风貌、重大历史事件、政体制度、教育制度、价值观念、民族政策、文学艺术等有较系统和清楚的了解，使语言教学和语言知识、文化知识的传授紧密结合。
（2）能力目标：
① 语言能力：能够用英语参与有关主要英语国家的社会与文化等专题的讨论，发表相对完整的独立见解，提高学生识读与表达能力以及跨文化语言运用能力。
② 学习能力：通过SPOC线上线下学习，培养学生养成良好的在线学习、自主学习能力，以及以团结合作精神来解决相关问题的能力；
③ 认知能力：培养学生文化差异的敏感性、宽容性和处理文化差异的灵活性。
素质目标：提高学生自身的文化修养、专业素养。在提高学生文化意识的基础上，提高学生的文化观察素养、文化思索素养、文化甄别素养和文化探索素养。通过翻转课堂方式提高学生“提出问题-思考问题-讨论问题-解决问题”的问题意识和批判性精神。教学效果
本课程以在线学习资源为基础，对外国语学院15080101班进行初次教学实践。通过问卷调查并运用SPSS主成成分分析后发现：互动环节的实现、有效的知识内容的呈现是SPOC设计的关键；教学方法和平台建设和SPOC微课程也有助于提高学生的自主学习能力和学习主动性。
