This course takes up directly from where University Physics 1 left off: with the realization that light is an electromagnetic wave. From this starting point, we will follow a path through the following topics: • Physics of oscillation (harmonic motion) 震动 • Oscillating charges make electromagnetic waves (radiation) 电磁辐射 • Physics of waves (including sound) 波 • Light as a wave (physical optics) 光学 • Light as a particle, particles as waves (quantum physics) 量子物理 • Entropy sets limits on the possible (statistical and thermal physics) 统计物理与热力学 • The speed of light is constant (special relativity) 狭义相对论相
At the core of this course are the videos, which have been designed to approximate as much as possible the experience of standing with me at a blackboard and figuring things out together.

It is extremely important that you take an active approach to watching the videos. Have a pen in your hand and paper in front of you, and work along with me.

It is also extremely important to ask questions as soon as you encounter something you don’t understand. There are sure to be things I don’t explain clearly in the videos, so don’t be afraid to let me know if you are struggling with certain concepts. Asking questions will be possible through the online forum.

The course is organized into 14 weekly units. Every week, you will independently work through about 10 videos, each about 10 minutes long. Practice questions after each video will help to solidify the key concepts, and at the end of the week, you will complete a set of homework problems to tie everything together. To do well in this course, you should expect to devote about 10 hours every week to it, including time spent watching the videos.
