Students will learn both classical and modern structural analysis methods to analyze statically determinate and indeterminate structures. After successful completion of the course, students should be able to: 1. Define basic types of structural engineering terminology; 2. Apply equation of equilibrium to determine axial forces, shear forces,and bending moments in statically determinate beams, trusses,and frames; 3. Apply geometrical and energy method to determine elastic deflection in statically determinate beams, trusses, and frames; 4. Analyze statically indeterminate beams, trusses, and frames by the force (or flexibility) method and displacement method; 5. Apply modern stiffness method to analyze beams,trusses, and frames; 6. Apply structural analysis software package to solve structural analysis problems.
